That’s just a start of the video – pre-editing / compressed for my uploading convenience.

This was an impromptu demo that I tried with the CEO of Eswaran Brothers Tea. I went to EB with the guys from Picture This to discuss developing some product videos for Subra and the idea of doing a video interview with him came up. I wasn’t expecting to be on camera but we decided to go for an informal, chatty style and I was volunteered to be the interviewer.

It was a lot easier than I expected though that owed a lot to Subra. He’s an articulate guy and as long as the questions were sensible he has no problem taking the ball and running with it.

From a personal perspective I thought my body language could have been better. Physically I felt I was little hunched and wee bit twitchy. Also both Subra and I have know each other since high-school and we were both trying to suppress giggles over the fact we were doing a business interview together.

A fuller version should be online soon.

DIALOG TELEKOM, CHEATED ME :’ others beware « It’s all about life.

I’m  interested to see how a large telecom company in Sri Lanka responds to the blog post linked I’ve linked to above. Dialog Telekom does make an attempt to use social media including FacebookTwitter and blogging. The breadth of social media coverage is good even if the implementation leaves something to be desired;  social media isn’t particularly well integrated with their website and oddly they don’t seem to link to their blog from their corporate site.

If they are serious about social media, they should be monitoring the conversation around their brand and respond to the complaint from the customer who wrote the blog post.

Toyota Conversations.

It’s fascinating from an architectural POV and from a marketing perspective – particularly in light of the recent problems the company has faced re. its cars. The timing of the launch is interesting. Perhaps a case of “If you can’t control the conversation at least gain some control over the conversation space.” ?

Social Media Today | Five reasons corporations are failing at social media.

I see the first two in particular reflected in Sri Lankan companies using social media. It’s exactly what happened when they started blogging a few years ago.

Based on my working experience, there’s probably three reasons for this:

1) General ignorance about how best to use social media

2) Fear that reflecting on the big picture might lead to “OMG! Our customers might notice we have competitors!!!”

3) Old media marketers using social media as “ADVERTISING”. not as a means of engaging the wider world.

THEO PAPHITIS: Why ALL bosses should do what I did and ban staff from Facebook | Mail Online.

Mind numbingly short-sighted article. Aside from the business benefits of social media, with the profusion of mobile devices capable of accessing the internet, this is no solution to the “problem”.

Today in Sport – live! | Sean Ingle and James Dart | Sport | guardian.co.uk. Interesting new addition to the Guardians sports section -  a blog that streams the day’s sports news with reader feedback. The Guardian’s Over by Over cricket feature has proved hugely successful and they seem to be spinning that off into sports in general.
